The final field trip of the year brought Year 7 to Cardiff Bay to explore the regeneration of the former dockland area south of the city centre.  Our first activity involved an exciting boat trip around the Bay enabled pupils to see the £700 million International Sports Village development (which is still on-going) and the £220 million Barrage.  This was followed by a tour of Roald Dahl Plass, a multi-function public area built over a former dock.  We then made our way to the magnificent Millennium Arts Centre.  This flagship project lies at the heart of the £2 billion regeneration scheme.  Pupils had the opportunity to learn more about changes to this area through a short audio-visual presentation in the Visitor Centre.  The final activity of the morning involved a tour along the waterfront, including the Welsh Assembly Senedd building, the Norwegian Church – representing Cardiff’s international connections and finally Port Teigr, a new sustainable mixed development including the Dr Who Experience and the BBC Roath Lock Studios – a new centre for creative industries.

Then it was off to Techniquest for a picnic and ice cream and some fun mathematical problem-solving and puzzles at the ‘Mathamagic’ workshop.

Many thanks go to Mr Jones, Mrs Harper, Mrs Keyton and Dr Lawlor for their help and support.  A successful field trip, though-provoking and stimulating, a great way to finish the year.
