Success on the Thames for HMSG rowers

February 26, 2015

On Saturday, February, 7, HMSGRC travelled to Greater London to compete in Hampton Junior Head.

After travelling up the night before the girls were well rested for a day of racing over the 3,000 metre course on a picturesque strip of the Thames.

The racing commenced with the two Junior 14 coxed quads, who have only been rowing for 6 months.

Coming off the water smiling, both quads did extremely well coming 6th and 14th out of 17 crews.

The senior girls, Pippa, Emma, Emily, Charlotte and Hannah, were to follow in style racing in the Junior 18 coxed four event.

Having a storming race the girls won the race, beating off their next contender by six seconds.

Accompanied by the Junior 16 squad of Hannah, Aoife, Gabrielle and Josephine, the senior girls were back on the water in the second division to make up the Junior 18 coxed eight.

The girls had a great race, coming a respectable fourth behind some of the best school crews in the country.

The last race of the day was the Junior 15 coxed eight with some tough competition.

After having a fantastic race the girls finished in 8th place out of twelve crews.

A special mention needs to go to a handful of the Junior 14 squad who helped the regatta catering team clear up the canteen area after lunch.

Showing team spirit and compassion the club represented the school on and off the water with flying colours.

All of the girls should be very proud of their achievements.

These results demonstrate how hard the girls have worked over the Christmas period.

With the club in high spirits, these results are spurring the girls on to train harder and race faster – well done girls!
