South East Wales Champions

September 26, 2014

HMSG Year 7 and 8 teams were both crowned South East Wales relay champions at the recent cross country event held at King Henry VIII School.

It was a fantastic start to the season for all involved and provided a good grounding for the forthcoming league races and individual championships.  The Year 7 ‘A’ team consisting of Sinead, Lucy and Tatyana got off to great start and held on to second place for the first two legs.  After handing over to Sinead on the final leg the team moved into first place and had a convincing win over rivals King Henry.  The ‘B’ team consisting of Issy, Scarlett and Sophie also produced fine performances finishing 3rd in a field of 15 schools.  In the Year 8 section, the HMSG ‘A’ team of Ellie, Issy and Nell, inspired by the Year 7’s success, all ran outstanding legs and were rewarded with a first place finish.  The ‘B’ team of Eva, Sophia and Sophie were placed 5th which is again a great result for the girls in a field of 10 teams.

Both Year 7 and 8 cross country teams have made a promising start to the County League with both teams standing in first position in the team rankings.   There have been exceptional performances from Sinead and Maya (Year 7) who were placed 1st and 2nd respectively in a field of over 150 runners in the second race of the series.   Ellie (Year 8) was placed 2nd in both of her races, again in a large field of more than 150 and in the Year 10 and 11 section, Hannah and Maddy were placed 3rd and 4th respectively in a field of over 50 girls.
