A two day induction programme is run at the start of Year 12 to allow all girls to settle in and begin the transition to sixth form studies.  The organised activities give girls an insight into sixth form routines, and show them what they can expect from us and what is expected of them. Activities during the two days feature team building events for all students of Year 12 and include students from Monmouth School and HMSG’s Year 13. A Freshers’ Fayre introduces the wide range of enrichment and co-curricular activities on offer and there will be an opportunity to meet with the staff who will be teaching each of the subjects throughout the year. By the end of the two days everyone will be on the way to drawing up their personalised learning path which they will follow throughout Year 12.

The induction programme continues throughout the Michaelmas term, with regular meetings with your Personal Tutor and Head of Year.  Every pupil will also undertake sessions with the Assistant Head (Sixth Form), Careers Advisor and the Librarian.  All these people will be crucial to success and can organise help and support as it is needed. Study Skills sessions are also included in the induction programme to improve or top up the skills used when preparing for GCSE examinations.

A key feature of the sixth form at HMSG is the support and guidance received not only during the induction programme but throughout the two years of sixth form.  All staff are willing to offer any help needed and will encourage students to be proactive and take responsibility for their own learning.

A sixth form forum is run by the Senior Prefects and attended by representatives from all tutor groups in Years 12 and 13.  This forum encourages students to bring forward their ideas and suggestions on sixth form life.
