Musical trio performs for royalty at Diamond Duke of Edinburgh Showcase

October 4, 2016

A talented trio of musicians performed in front of HRH The Earl of Wessex at a special event to mark the Duke of Edinburgh Award’s 60th anniversary.

dofe2Lisa, Mererid and Amy from Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls played a Shakespearean medley for the Diamond Showcase at Wales Millennium Centre on September 28.

Lou Scott, Acting Director of Sport and DofE Manager at HMSG, said: “I nominated our performers as they embody the many different values of DofE.

“They are all serious hard workers and utterly delightful girls.”

Harpist Lisa has been nominated for several honours, most recently a Monmouthshire Business Award for her clever invention, Xorbit – an eco-friendly and sweet-smelling car dehumidifier.

Amy plays the flute and netball for HMSG’s 2nd team and violinist Mererid represents the school in tennis, netball and lacrosse, not to mention being a very capable high jumper.

Arwel Evans, Development Officer for DofE Wales, told the girls: “The words ‘thank you’ seem too simple for the important part you played in making the Diamond Showcase such a huge success. “Thank you for coming along and helping us show the general public what amazing, talented participants we have doing their DofE here in Wales.”

Mrs Nyree Clayton, Assistant Head (Co-Curricular) at HMSG, also attended the event and was a recognised volunteer for DofE Wales.
