Generous music teachers at HMSG are staging a free concert of solo and ensemble pieces to raise money for a children’s charity.

The School’s visiting instrumental and singing teachers, otherwise known as the “Peris”, are inviting parents and pupils to watch them play in HMSG’s Hamersley Studio on Thursday, May 26 at 7.30pm.

Chris HornerViolin teacher Chris Horner said: “As we are always putting the girls in the ‘hot seat’ through encouraging them to take part in concerts, festivals and entering exams, we feel that it is high time that this balance should be redressed – so it is surely time for us to occupy this seat ourselves!

“As musicians who like to perform, we see this will be an opportunity for you, the parents, your daughters, sons and friends, to get to know us through our music.”

The diverse programme will include works by female composers such as Clara Schumann and Chaminade as well as Rodrigo and French and German songs.

Mr Horner added: “There may even be a chance to hear us playing and singing together.

“We hope to see a good number of you there as we’re really practising hard!”

The ensemble comprises eight teachers playing various instruments including the violin, harp, guitar, piano, cello and flute. There will also be a soprano vocalist.

After the performance, guests are invited to chat to the musicians over a glass of wine or juice and nibbles.

There will be a collection during the event, with all donations going directly to The Honeypot Childrens’ Charity.

This wonderful UK charity provides outreach support respite breaks for young carers and vulnerable children and will be opening a new house in Wales in the Autumn.

So that HMSG has a good idea of numbers for catering purposes, please indicate how many in your family will be coming by emailing Mrs Georgina Zorab at gzorab@hmsg.co.uk
