International Eventing Success

July 11, 2016

pic1wpic2wLast week,  Georgie in Year 12 finally got the message she’d been waiting for all year:  she had been selected for the Under 18 eventing team for Wales.

This came as a real shock, as just the week before, her hopes had been dashed when the horsebox had had an engine failure and she could not compete in the final trial for the team.  Riders had to compete in a number  of qualifying competitions in their region to go forward for selection.   As the competition is run under international rules they also have  to have reached a high standard in a further six events.

Her quest started last autumn when she bought her new horse La Liga.  Despite the weather causing cancellation of events, La Liga being injured and of course AS exams, they managed to qualify.  Georgie’s ambition was to be chosen for  the Welsh squad for the Under 18 Eventing Championship to be held in the stunning location of Frickley Park in Yorkshire in August.  The event runs over three days with dressage then cross country and finally show jumping.  Now the hard work starts with  team training, next week and fitness training for Georgie and her horse as it will be longer and  more difficult  than any cross country done so far.
