HMSG mourns the loss of Dorothy Moore

December 9, 2016

do-de-moore-2-photosIt is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mrs Dorothy Moore, known affectionately as Do-de.  A stalwart of HMSG, Do-de joined the school as a day girl in Prosser House in 1959.  Having gained her teaching diploma at Bordesley College of Education, she graduated from the Open University with a degree in psychology and maths.

She returned to HMSG in 1982 to teach maths and during her 26 years working here, she was a boarding Housemistress, taught psychology, was the first member of staff to lead girls in Monmouth School’s CCF and was latterly Assistant Head of Sixth Form.

She will be remembered by generations of pupils as she was Chair of the Old Girls’ Association for decades.  Although Do-de officially retired in 2008, she remained a strong force for good in the School and was a stand-in psychology teacher until the end.

A much loved and highly respected member of staff, pupils and colleagues alike have benefitted enormously over the years from her wise counsel, warmth, energy and compassion.  She will be sorely missed by everyone within the school community.

Our thoughts and prayers go to her daughter, Davina, stepson and five grandchildren to whom she was devoted.
