HMSG Dance Tour 2014

May 13, 2014

On Friday 25th April, the excitement began as 25 HMSG girls departed for the annual dance tour.

First stop was Surrey where we were greeted by former HMSG Dance Captain Lara Jakes to join forces for a street dance workshop with Green Acres School for Girls.  The choreographer, Jo, immediately put us to the test on our Bart Simpson and Bobby Brown moves and grooves.  We ended the day in Southend-on-Sea with an introduction to dance on film with dance tour favourite, Nikki McCarthy, providing us with laughter and excitement for the following day.

Saturday started at Cecil Jones College where pupils used Nikki’s choreographed routine to produce their own dance films using mini iPads.  The results were outstanding!  Following this, we headed to London’s West End to see Michael Jackson: Thriller Live.  A truly spectacular performance that made us “…dance and shout… Shake our bodies down to the ground!”

With their energy levels still high on Sunday morning, the girls were ready and raring to go for a two-hour commercial jazz workshop with Arthur Gourounlian at Pineapple Dance Studios.  A dancer turned choreographer/director, who has worked with numerous celebrities including Beyoncé, HMSG dancers were left in awe of his talent and energy.

We felt extremely privileged to have had such an inspirational and unforgettable Trip.  With a weekend full of fun, we look forward to a Summer Term packed of dance and choreography inspired by yet another fantastic HMSG dance tour.
