mary1 A dedicated hockey player has been selected to represent her country in the European Championships.

Mary, in Year 10 at Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls, will play for the Wales U16 team in the international games this summer.

The talented 1st XI goalkeeper travelled to Switzerland during the Easter holidays to compete in nine test matches against the Swiss national side.

Kerry Marshall, Director of Sport at HMSG, said: “The Welsh team was extremely successful, winning all games and – thanks to Mary’s exceptional performance – conceding no goals.

“Mary was first introduced to goalkeeping at HMSG in Year 7.

“She took to it like a duck to water and has gone from strength to strength since.

“At 5’10 and as fit as a middle distance runner, she has huge potential. This is only the beginning for Mary in international hockey.”

In June, Mary will be travelling to Glasgow for more test matches against Scotland in preparation for the European Championships in Lithuania.
