WJEC Innovation Awards

The WJEC Innovation Awards is a prestigious occasion, celebrating the best design and make tasks from GCSE, AS and A2 Design and Technology.  There were over 16,000 entries this year so to be chosen to be one of the 80 projects on display is an honour itself.  To win one of the 5 prizes available for A2 level projects is an incredible achievement.

Clare, now studying Ophthalmology at Cardiff University, won third prize in the A level category of the awards for her innovative swimming float.  The float eliminates the need to buy separate products for legs and arms.  The manufacturing process of layering materials enables the float to be more durable than current products and the friction fit of the leg float into the arm float demonstrates that even some of the simplest solutions to problems can be innovative and have commercial potential.

Clare answered some probing questions from the First Minister Carwyn Jones about her design before being presented with her prize in front of a packed audience at the SWALEC Stadium in Cardiff.
