Hannah, in Year 13, celebrated outstanding AS results at the end of the summer. But that was not all she had to celebrate as she had spent a large part of the summer (even whilst preparing for her exams) training and competing in international sailing competitions. Hannah's sisters, Rachel and Nina, have also sailed for Great Britain.

After having a tough season last year and a disappointing start to this season, I had a lot to prove at the Laser Radial Youth World Championships in La Rochelle. My goal for the event was top 30 overall and top ten in my age category (U18). After a promising first day I was lying in 18th position overall, which was a solid start to the event. In the first race on day 2 I came second, which I should have been over the moon with, but finishing so close to first made me determined to go one better in the next race, which I managed. On day 3 I managed to pull out another first and second and was lying in 2nd place overall. I managed to hold that position until the end of day 5. I was a long way out of my comfort zone by the end of the regatta and racing an international regatta from the front was an entirely new experience and unfortunately day 6 finished disappointingly as I fell to 7th overall; 5th at the Europeans. I was competing against girls a year older than me and it was an incredibly steep learning curve and now I am back in training and preparation for hopefully being able to medal next year at the world championships.
