Senior mixed Tennis with Monmouth School

On Saturday 18th June, HMSG and MS took part in an exciting mixed-doubles tennis match against Malvern College.  The match consisted of a first and second team with three seeds in each team.  Each pair played their opposing seed and the other two seeds in their team. Whilst battling through some indecisive weather where it was bright sunshine one minute and scattered rain showers the next, both first and second teams kept their heads held high and showed great determination and teamwork throughout the day.

The first team in particular was faced with some fast serves from Malvern College and some agonisingly close games, where nearly every game went to deuce.  They were able to show great attacking play and break their serve resulting in an overall win of 5-4.  The second team exchanged early breaks of serve and played well in many long and intense baseline rallies.  They defended a great number of aggressive shots and were quick to the net to receive smartly played drop shots from Malvern College.  They were a break down and an unfortunate net call going against Monmouth resulted in a double-break.  The final game was back and fore to deuce and advantage to Monmouth for the chance to break back but Malvern College held their nerve, hitting a winner down the line and serving out the match with an ace.  The end result was 6-3 to Malvern.

Overall, there was great positivity and teamwork from both teams with many thanks to Mrs. Jones and Mr. McQuitty for their coaching and support.
