On Tuesday 27th September a group of Y12 AS Biology students went to the Science Education Centre at @Bristol to undertake some practical work relating to the development and synthesis of new drugs for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. In the laboratory session the girls synthesised a substituted pyrimidone derivative with therapeutic value in the treatment of Parkinson's disease. After analysing their product, by thin layer chromatography, the girls discussed a range of ethical and social issues surrounding the development and prescription of drugs.
