As part of HMSG’s Year 9 cross-curricular week a trip was organised to visit three of the 2012 Olympic venues. We drove through Stratford, home of the 2012 Olympics, where promotion for regeneration and improvement of life in East London was the catalyst of the 2012 bid. Here the Olympic stadium majestically towers over smaller sports stadia and the Olympic village which will become an advert for sustainability after the games as it is sold for ‘affordable’ housing to local Stratford residents. They are impressive sites, designed as an example of sustainable living across the whole of the UK and proof of regeneration to the World. We ‘glimpsed’ the O2 Arena where gymnastics, trampoline and basketball finals will be held and then finally Greenwich Observatory where we were able to embrace the full wonderment of the venues. An intoxicating experience and even the inclement weather and long journey failed to dampen spirits.
