Last weekend the HMSG rowing club came out in full force to enjoy a day of racing in the sun at the annual Monmouth Regatta. It was a successful day with the club sweeping the board, winning 6 out of the 7 categories we competed in. It was a busy day of racing with girls competing in several heats, against a variety of clubs, universities and other schools leading up to the finals.
Our first success of the day came from Emma competing in the J15 single sculls. She led all the way, securing an easy and well deserved win. Next came the J14 double of Pippa and Skye who also scooped a medal after a tough race. The J13s had their first taste of racing for the school in quads and won, in true Habs’ style, collecting the first of many medals to come in the future. The J15 quad consisting of Charlotte, Molly, Pippa and Skye, coxed by Rachel, fought hard to win a place in the final and had one of the closest finishes of the day, snatching a win in the final strokes. Raking in even more medals for the club was the J16 8 who battled hard through the heats and had a strong row in the final, continuing their winning streak this season. Last but not least the Junior 4 sailed through the heat to gain a place in the final where a nail-biting finish kept the crowd on their feet.
Overall it was a very successful day for the Habs’ rowers who intend to keep up this winning streak next weekend at National Schools Regatta and bring home even more medals.
