Habs 6 Sports Day is a prestigious annual event hosted in turn by the schools in the Haberdashers’ family. Beginning in 1975, when only Elstree and HMSG took part, the occasion now features six Haberdashers’ schools – Adams Grammar, Abraham Darby, Elstree, Hatcham and Monmouth. Last week Habs 6 returned to HMSG. A hugely successful day witnessed competitors challenge for trophies in netball and participate in dance (activities common to all schools) in a spirit of friendship, competition and fun.
HABS Sports Day 2011 also saw us say farewell to Dr Sidwell CBE, CEO of the Haberdashers’ Aske’s Federation and a towering supporter of Habs Sports for 21 years. To mark this service, the winners of the U18 netball tournament were awarded the Dr E Sidwell Trophy. The U15’s continued to play for the Michael Hall Trophy and, this year, both were won by Elstree.
In dance, girls from the schools mixed in groups to create some amazing work, which they performed on stage before tea for everyone to vote for their favourite Habs 6 dance group.
Haberdashers’ Sports Day embodies the company’s values of sportsmanship, friendship, and pride in representing one’s school. It proves the Haberdashers’ family is strong, adaptable and ever-ready to greet new relatives and challenges. Long may it continue!
