On Sunday the 25th September HMSGRC had it's first Head race of the winter season, at home in Monmouth. In the dreary rain of an autumn day 17 girls raced, in 24 crews, over 2 divisions, in 8 categories, WINNING 6 categories.
The day saw an HMSGRC debut for the J14 rowers Pippa and Skye where they won in their Double Scull and Pippa also went on to win in her J14 Single Scull in the afternoon followed into 2nd place by Skye. Not to be outdone, the J17 Double Scull of Anna and Rachel also raced a brilliant course to finish 1st, followed by Rowan and Ceri in 2nd place. Emma pulled out all the stops in her Single Scull in the first division, putting in a stunning performance, she won the J15 event, making her the fastest Habs sculler of the day and finishing only 2 seconds behind the winner of the J18 sculls. Emma then went on to join the senior girls in the club, Holly, Grace and Kathryn to make up a Quad, who also won their category in the afternoon. To round off the afternoon Emily put in her second Single Sculling performance of the day to win the J17 category.
A very successful day with all the rowers having given good performances to start off their 2011 season with a bang.
