St Mary’s Church was the perfect setting for this magical concert. Faure’s Pavanne, performed by soloist Angharad on the Cor Anglais, set the tone for the evening. The orchestra were magnificent and wonderfully led by Conductor, Mr Conway, and 1st Violinist, Mrs Friend. Angharad was simply incredible.
The main event, the Requiem itself, was performed by the Chamber Choir and the Year 8 choir: their first attempt at such a challenging and rewarding piece. The audience were moved by the stunning and uplifting work, which in 40 minutes takes the listener through a mixture of emotions, climaxing with the sublime In Paridisium. Abigail’s Pie Jesu will never be forgotten; such a beautiful and professional performance which was worthy of a standing ovation by itself. Mr Arrand offered the only male voice with his solo ‘Libera Me’. Supported by the wonderful orchestra and Mr Lawson’s superb work on the organ, this choral and orchestral concert was one of the finest in recent memory.
