Engineering Opportunities

Recently fourteen members of Years 11 and 12 visited Renishaw in Wotton-under-Edge to find out more about a career in engineering.  After an introductory presentation about Renishaw’s core business, metrology (the science of measurement), the girls enjoyed a hands-on tour of the premises, where they were able to examine tools used in machinery that ranges from coordinate measuring to encoder products and laser interferometry to neurosurgery.  All members of the party enjoyed the experience very much.  In their own words, “We didn’t know what to expect before visiting  Renishaw, but were fascinated to see what the company does and thought the trip was inspiring and enriching".

Renishaw is sponsoring girls at HMSG who gain success in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) to the tune of £1000.  Five girls won prizes for their achievement in the British Physics Olympiad Practical Project in January and eight members of Year 10 are competing in 'Extreme Physics' in April, a three-day residential course at Stowe School, paid for out of Renishaw’s generous award.
