Mrs J Hines visited the school last week to present a talk on the Friends of the Children of Chernobyl Charity. Rhiannon, our Charities prefect was able to present her with £300 cheque for the charity raised by HMSG. Mrs Hines gave an interesting presentation on the lives of children still affected by The Chernobyl disaster, a nuclear accident that occurred on 26 April 1986 at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine. The current living conditions of families in the surrounding areas shocked Years 7 and 8 as the deprivation they exist under is extreme by our standards. Children from the area visit the UK every year and stay with local families. Their English is very limited or non-existent but they have a wonderful time and are taken on lots of trips. Years 7 and 8 wish to support this worthwhile charity further and it was suggested that we could donate stationary and toiletries for the children to take home with them.
