And the Oscar goes to...

Over the years, Mrs Green and Mrs Taylor have built up the HMSG library up to the fantastic 17000 volume resource we have today. In addition to looking after all those books, Mrs Green, Librarian and Mrs Taylor, Library Assistant, organise a tremendous number of events, activities and initiatives to help girls academically, including Learning Styles profiling and Sixth Form Structured Study groups. They also organise in-library activities such as Chinese New Year, Cross-Curricular Weeks and, every year, the Library Oscars.

The Library Oscars are awards given to celebrate achievements in reading, commemorating achievements related to the library. On Thursday 12th May this Library tradition was turned on its head as girls organised a surprise Alternative Library Oscars, turning the concept back on Mrs Green and Mrs Taylor to celebrate their achievements. Representatives from each form in each year were invited to present the Librarians with their own awards, ranging from the ‘Nelson Mandela Award’ for helping Year 9 with their history project to the ‘Little Miss Sunshine Prize,’ awarded to Mrs Taylor for always smiling! All the forms came up with excellent awards and it was a very enjoyable event, with cakes and balloons and Mrs Green crying (which the Library Prefect hadn’t anticipated and so had to send out for some tissues.)

The Alternative Library Oscars were a great opportunity to thank Mrs Green and Mrs Taylor for all their hard work over the years and to show how much we appreciate all they have done for us throughout our school lives.
