Aachen Christmas Markets

With spirits high, we set off on our trip to Germany last Friday and, with the help of our wonderful bus driver and some German carols, we made it to Aachen.

The whole trip to Germany was amazing.  All of us enjoyed getting a taste of German Christmas and trying the delicious food on offer from stalls and restaurants.

The Christmas markets in Aachen and Cologne were magical, especially at night.  The markets were aglow with fairy lights and Christmas trees.  We all got to try out our German, by buying ‘Lebkuchen’ and ‘Wurst’ from the stalls.

Cologne Cathedral was a highlight.  A group of us bravely ventured to the top of one of the spires, climbing the 533 steps to see a breathtakingly high view of the city. We visited the Lindt Chocolate Museum and filled our Christmas hats with chocolate treats. Then we took a boat trip along the Rhine, taking in the sights and singing along with’ Niklaus’.  We especially loved this!  We also visited Aachen Cathedral and were wowed by the astoundingly beautiful architecture and colour.  The stained-glass windows were amazing.

Thank you to all of the staff who made this possible.  It is a trip that we will never forget.  What a perfect way to end the term!
