An incredibly enchanting time was had by English department and A Level students on a visit to Tyntesfield Manor, near Bristol: The National Trust’s Victorian Gothic Revival House. The estate’s haunting atmosphere worked wonderfully to create the dark atmosphere rife in Gothic literature! Extracts from classic Gothic novels were read in different areas of the grounds giving inspiration and insight into the setting and ambience! Particularly chilling was a reading in the bed chamber, which had a strikingly similar resemblance to that of Daphne Du Maurier’s evocative ‘Rebecca’! Many thanks to the English teachers and those at Tyntesfield who made it an altogether enjoyable day out!
