Choral music in St Mary's ChurchLast Tuesday musicians from Monmouth School and HMSG impressed a packed St Mary's Church audience with an evening of orchestral and choral music of the highest quality. The Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools’ Symphony Orchestra, directed by Mr Mario Conway, began the evening’s repertoire with Aaron Copland’s John Henry, followed by Karelia by Jean Sibelius; both played with tremendous assurance and sensitivity. After a short interval, Monmouth School’s Choral Society, conducted by David Lawson, Director of Music at Monmouth School, and joined by the HMSG Boarders’ Choir began the first rousing notes of Mozart’s Requiem. The soloists were Soprano, Angela Kazimierczuk, singing teacher at HMSG; Countertenor, Sebastian Field; Tenor, Andrew Hayman, OM, who is currently reading Music with a Choral Award at Magdalen College, Oxford; and Bass, Tom Arrand, Deputy Head at HMSG. The audience left impressed with how talented and confident the next generation of musicians at Monmouth School and HMSG are.
