Rowing News June 2010

National Schools

On the 28th to the 30th of May, HMSG rowers competed at the National Schools Regatta, against all the other major rowing clubs from across the country.  On Friday it was the turn of the Year 9s, although sadly neither of the crews qualified to the semi finals, with the A crew missing out on a place by 4 seconds.  The next race was the Year 10s, who raced in a four.  They also just missed out on qualifying to the semi finals, but by just one second this time.

Then on Saturday, the Junior Girls four raced and gained a place in the semi finals.  The crew of Emily, Grace, Freddie, Jo and cox Hollie just missed out on a place in the final of their event, coming 4th in their race.  In the afternoon it was the turn of the Junior 16 eight, which included Lizzie, Alice, Rachel, Bethan, Alice, Lizzie, Kathryn, Emily and cox Felicity.  They came 6th in their final, after putting in a strong performance.

On the final day of racing, the Junior 16 four also missed out on qualification, while in the semi final of the Junior 16 pairs Jo and Emily came 5th, just missing out on a place in the final.

Monmouth Regatta

Some crews from HMSG also competed at Monmouth on Sunday 30th May.  The Year 10 crew raced down the course, but were sadly beaten by their opponents, as were the Junior 18 double of Jess and Lizzie who were racing against a crew older than themselves.  There was one win of the day though; the year nine crew of Elena, Megan, Abigail, Rachel and Cox Laura, who won their semi final and then went on to beat their opposition in the final, after an impressive race.
