Public Speaking

Rotary Youth Speaks

Our trip on Sunday 7th March to speak in the Rotary Youth Speaks District Final was a really amazing experience.  St Katherine’s School, who were hosting the event, had great facilities and the Rotarians weren’t the scary old men and women I had first imagined them to be and were actually really kind and cheerful.

The other schools all seemed to have really well rehearsed speeches and so it was nerve-wracking going first but also it meant it was over and done with!  Standing in front of such a big audience to speak is very daunting and we’d never done anything like it before but thankfully we all coped with the pressure.

Catie spoke excellently and Roshani had the audience in the palm of her hand with them both blending comedy and sincerity perfectly.  We all enjoyed listening to the other speeches on topics which varied from the thought-provoking “what is the meaning of life?” to the more comical “how long does it take to walk around the world?”

Overall, the day was great but wouldn’t have happened without friends’, parents’ and teachers’ support.
