On Sunday 5th December a number of students and staff from HMSG braved sub-zero temperatures to take part in the 3rd annual Santa Fun Run organised by the Spirit of Monmouth Running Club. The 1.5 mile run was very well supported and took runners through the streets of Monmouth in aid of Ty Hafan Childrens’ Hospice and the Army Benevolent Fund.

The route was well marshalled and gritted but when crossing the Vauxhall Fields a pair of ice skates would have been more useful than trainers. There were some great performances from our cross-country captain Elana who was hotly pursued by Lauren from Year 7! More importantly we also acquitted ourselves well in the fancy dress stakes with a great mix of reindeer, Christmas trees, Santas and even the odd fairy on display.

There was plenty of encouragement from parents, spectators and some slightly confused looking tourists. We all enjoyed running on “home turf” in support of a great cause and it will undoubtedly be an event HMSG will continue to support in the future. Hopefully next year the weather will be a bit kinder to runners and marshals alike! Thank you to the Spirit of Monmouth Running Club and all those who made it such a fun morning.
