HMSG and MS Mixed Tennis Triumph

Saturday, 24th April 2010 saw the first mixed tennis match played by a team comprising of HMSG girls and MS boys.  Girls' captain, Harriet, writes the following report:

"On Saturday 24th April the Senior Mixed tennis team travelled to Malvern College for their first ever match.  After only one training session with the boys we were all feeling a little apprehensive but once we had finished our warm-up and the matches had begun we all settled into our game.

The first team, consisting of Harriet (Girls' Captain), Brigid and Kathryn and their partners Chris, Ed (Boys Captain)  and Tom faced tough competition from some fast-serving boys and girls and some tactical net play.  However, we also produced some fine serves, most notably from the boys, and Brigid worked well at the net to finish some long points in style.  Harriet and Kathryn meanwhile wore down their opponents with their consistent rallying returns from the back of the court.

The second team of Emily, Kate, Belle and their partners Oli, Paddy and Luke had equal success.  They played consistently and with aggressive shots from the baseline and net.  The pairings worked well and they all showed determination and team prowess throughout the day.

Each pair played their seed and the other two seeds in their team and after all the scores had been added together both Monmouth teams had won 5-4.  Some great teamwork, positivity and doubles play had led to a brilliant win for both teams.  We now have a chance to practise in preparation for our next match against Cheltenham College.
