ICT Curriculum Overview - KS4

Year 10

The change to the WJEC Board (formerly, Welsh Joint Education Committee) proved an exciting start to the new specification last year.  Concentrating on three main areas, Communications, Databases and Spreadsheet Modelling, the pupils are immersed in these vital skills that are now essential requirements in the modern office, highly sought by employers and are invaluable tools when studying at higher education.

In Year 10, the short course is followed and comprises controlled assessments (60% of the marks) and an ICT theory exam (the remaining 40% of marks), which is taken during the summer term – one year early.

Year 11

The second year of the ICT GCSE covers the study of the world of multimedia and involves either the creation of a web site or a sophisticated presentation.

All the practical work is undertaken in school in controlled assessments.  The split between practical and theoretical marks is as for Year 10.  The completion of this year, together with the earlier work in Year 10, constitutes the full ICT GCSE course
