Help for Heroes

On Wednesday 5th May, Meghan, Emma and Georgie (all sixth form boarders) hosted a concert in aid of Help for Heroes - a charity especially close to their hearts.  Its purpose is to rebuild soldiers’ lives following the physical and emotional trauma of combat.

Georgie writes:

The reason many of us board is due to the fact that close family members are away for such long periods of time in countries such as Afghanistan and Iraq.

We felt that organising a concert in aid for Help for Heroes was a minor challenge compared to the sheer effort our family members put into protecting our country.  It was an honourable experience and a great pleasure to express to the audience how much this charity means to us.

The night consisted of a combination of all the school choirs, ranging from Year 7 Choir to Senior Strings, a ‘military-esque’ Fashion Show, two very personal poems, a CCF drill display, a breathtaking dance and even an appearance from the Royal Welsh Regimental Goat, Sergeant William Windsor VII.

For all their support and effort in making the night run smoothly, we’d like to thank Mr David Gatward, the local Help for Heroes representative; Ms Randles, Mrs Dummett, Ms Parry, Mrs Friend, Mrs Milledge, Mr Conway and all of the other staff who assisted; the Monmouth School Cadets, the boarders for all of their hard work, everyone who took part whether it be in singing, dancing or marching, and of course, Sergeant William Windsor VII.

The night was a huge success and we felt it was a great privilege to host such an event.  So far over £2000 has been raised for the charity.  Well done and thank you to all concerned.
