Music

We aim to offer each girl a rich educational experience through our commitment to classroom teaching and a full programme of extra-curricular activities.

At HMSG, music is for everyone.  Whilst remaining committed to the musically gifted and aiming to give them every possible opportunity and support, it is our philosophy  that every child has the right to experience a diverse musical curriculum and to perform in musical events.

Music

Our aims are:

  1. 1. To foster every child with a love of singing and to equip her with elementary singing techniques;
  2. 2. To positively encourage every child to join an extra-curricular music activity of her own choice to experience the rewards of collective music-making and to offer her the experience of performing in public to increase personal confidence and teamwork skills;
  3. 3. To encourage children to learn an orchestral instrument, if finances allow, and to provide suitable alternative opportunities for group instrumental playing for those who cannot;
  4. 4. To ‘stretch’ the musically gifted; to ensure they are offered the necessary support classes (aural/theory) and to encourage them to join county and national orchestras so that they are mixing with players/singers of a higher standard than themselves;
  5. 5. To offer a choice of courses in Year 9 to cater for the various levels of musical interest and development;
  6. 6. To provide opportunities for Music Technology.
  7. 7. For every girl to leave HMSG with the musical skills needed to enjoy participation in choirs, orchestras, jazz, pop groups or musical theatre as a social occupation.
