Thank you for visiting the History Department Website at HMSG!
The History Department aims to make History come alive in the minds of the girls we teach and give them a rich historical education that will achieve examination success, lead to further study and above all be enjoyable. Our enthusiasm for the subject we teach means that History lessons at HMSG stimulate discussion across a range of topics that makes the girls aware of their heritage on local, national and global levels. This helps to develop their awareness of citizenship through the study of moral, economic and environmental events that are spattered throughout the past.
The girls at HMSG enjoy a range of activities in History lessons that vary from traditional source analysis and extended writing to role-play, ICT and peer assessment tasks. We consistently aim to make lessons that are interesting and make use of the most successful learning strategies. Throughout 2008 and 2009 we have introduced new educational visits for every year group that supplement their classroom based learning and further developed our extra-curricular clubs and societies.

Please view our departmental pages and feel free to contact us should you have any questions.
