Through the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme we have a programme which is ideal for guiding young people towards making sound choices and leading healthier lives.
Being healthy improves concentration, motivation, learning and self esteem: all qualities that play an enormous part in individual achievement and well being. Through its five sections- Skill; volunteering; physical recreation; residential and expedition – the DofE programme helps students to develop skills; an understanding of the need of the local community; improved health and fitness; friendship and a knowledge of the countryside around us.
At HMSG we offer a flexible and adaptable programme which supports students as they set out to achieve their personal goals. For a person to achieve any of the Bronze, Silver or Gold awards participants must show a high degree of commitment and organisational ability along with tolerance, understanding and an appropriate sense of humour. These are qualities that an individual may call upon frequently throughout their lives.
The Scheme is an extracurricular activity run in school during lunch times and after school. All expeditions and field trips are run on weekends and all dates are posted on the notice board, in the parent’s information booklet and on the School calendar.
