Through the complete education offered at HMSG, the girls are encouraged to be aware of others less fortunate than themselves, both globally and locally. Once made aware, they naturally feel the need to help. In the last five years, HMSG has raised over £65,000.
Many practical projects are undertaken, for example as part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, fully supported by the School.
Most frequently, however, the assistance offered takes the form of fund raising within the School. Many of the girls use their own initiative to fund raise for particular charities close to their heart and they organise a range of events in order to achieve this.
In order that their efforts are properly targeted, and so as not to over stretch the donor population, these events are overseen by the Charities Committee. The girls' views are paramount in selecting the charities to benefit from their efforts. Each house adopts a specific charity and has also adopted an animal each from the charities Care for the Wild, Island Farm Donkey Sanctuary and the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society.

One of the regular events is ‘Mufti Day’. In return for a small donation to the nominated charity the girls are permitted to wear their own clothes to School for the day. These days are often themed and sometimes the girls are invited to vote for the charity they would like to support from a selection of four; usually a local charity , a national charity, a children's charity or an animal charity.
