Entry to HMSG
Mrs Gloria Sheppard, Admissions Registrar, is here to assist you at every step of the entry procedure. She can be contacted by phone, +44 (0)1600 711104, fax +44 (0)1600 711118, or e-mail admissions@hmsg.co.uk
Points of Entry
We normally admit new pupils in years 3, 7, 9, and 12 at the start of the Michaelmas term. However, we are prepared to consider applications for other year groups and at other times, subject to places being available.
Open Days and Visits
Mrs Sheppard arranges Open Days each year for prospective pupils and their parents to visit the school. These are deliberately chosen to be during term time so that you can see the school in action and be guided round by current pupils who will give you a pupil’s viewpoint. Private visits can be arranged at other times if the dates are not convenient for you.

Please contact us if you would like to visit, so that we may arrange appropriate refreshments.
‘Taster Weekends’ for prospective boarders can also be arranged.
Scholarships and Bursaries
Both academic and music scholarships are available for entrants at 11+ (year 7), 13+ (year 9), and 16+ (year 12) with sport and creative arts scholarships for entry at Years 9 and 12. Special awards are available for service families. Please contact the Admissions Registrar for further details of all scholarships, bursaries, and assisted places.
Entrance Tests
This school is selective. All girls must complete our entrance tests and have a short interview with a senior member of the teaching staff. Pupils at 13+ can opt for the common entrance route. We will also contact your current school, so that we get a complete picture of your daughter. The decision to offer a place and/or a bursary will be made on the basis of ALL the information we are provided with, not just the test results.

As for the open days, if these days are not convenient we are able to arrange tests on alternative days. However, we would encourage you to attend on the published dates if possible as this will ensure that you application is assessed along with your peers.
Co-ordination with Monmouth School
Visits and tests can be co-ordinated with Monmouth School, for boys aged 7-18, if you also have children applying there.
Subject Choices
Both new entrants and returning pupils have access to guidance and counselling with their subject choices. HMSG offers over 30 A-level subject choices.
Induction
Successful candidates will be invited to attend an induction day during the Summer term so that they are familiar with the school layout and organisation when they join in the Michaelmas term.
All new girls will start school one day early in the Michaelmas term. This day consists of a structured programme of events designed to help them settle in as quickly as possible. New boarders will return two days early.
Feedback
We welcome feedback from parents and pupils on every aspect of our admissions procedure. We will also provide any feedback that we think will help you. We continually seek ways to make your daughter’s move to HMSG as stress-free as possible. We recognise that every pupil is individual and so always endeavour to be as flexible as we can
