Banyoles, 20km north of Girona, is widely known for its estany (lake), the venue for the rowing events in the 1992 Olympics.  In 2004, Banyoles hosted the World Rowing Championships for Junior and Senior Non Olympic events.  Banyoles has become the meeting point for world rowing and a training centre for many crews from around the world.
