On Sunday 25th January the renowned professional artist Brian Gorst visited the Art department to run an oil painting workshop with 26 year 10 Fine Art GCSE pupils.
Brian introduced the workshop with a short talk on colour theory. He demonstrated his technique and the pupils then set to work. Girls produced two small paintings during the day, one a tonal head study and the other a still life study of fruit. This was the first time the students had painted using oils and the results were remarkable!
To end the workshop Brian gave the girls a lecture with slides about his own work and described his life as a practising artist.
After this inspiring and satisfying day year 10 can now embark upon their first full sized canvas for GCSE coursework, brimming with confidence and enthusiasm!
