In addition to the support given by all staff at HMSG to students facing worries and problems, and of course the guidance and care provided by Rev. Dr. Barnden, the School Chaplain, the school provides a counselling service for its students.

Counselling offers a regular space and time to talk or think about worries or difficulties.  Sometimes it can be really hard to talk about things, particularly when you don't know if what you've talked about will be passed on to someone else.  Schools-based counselling is a distinct service; it is an additional source of specialist help available on school premises and in school time. 

The drop-in provides an opportunity for students to find out more about the service and to help them decide if is appropriate for them.  Drop-in sessions cannot be pre-booked and are allocated on a first come, first served basis.  Students can ‘drop in’ to room 216 in between 1.15pm - 2.10pm on a Tuesday lunchtime or telephone the service direct on 01600 711 111 / 07826 445 844 or email alewis@hmsg.co.uk  if they wish to make a self referral to arrange an initial appointment.  Students will have a meeting with the counsellor for an exploratory conversation.  Sometimes this is enough, but sometimes they want to continue with ongoing counselling or they might want a referral to another agency or service.

All students at HMSG are entitled to have up to a maximum of six sessions free, if it is agreed that further sessions would be beneficial to the student this can be arranged.  Please note that there will be a charge for further sessions.

The service is offered by an experienced professionally qualified counsellor who is a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and adheres to the BACP Ethical Framework.

The Service has a Code of Practice on Confidentiality and Data Protection detailing the nature and limits of confidentiality provided by the Service.  This Code is published in the HMSG shared documents and a copy is available for each student on request.

The drop-in service is available during term-time only.
