On the evening of Tuesday 18th March Ypres Company left Monmouth en route to Caerwent Army training area where we were met by 29CTT (our cadet training team). After moving into our harbour area we set up bashers and cooked hot rations - we knew the temperature was due to drop to freezing overnight. After a session identifying sounds at night we took part in a section competition which took the form of a Kim's game where each section had to find and identify the parts of a disassembled GP Rifle - in the dark! Next morning we paraded ready to take part in a full day of activities. Each section had various stands to complete including moving with a rifle, familiarisation with a warrior tank and a casualty simulation exercise. The sections were ranked 1 - 4 by the officers commanding each stand with 10 points going to Sections 1 and 4 and 7 points to Sections 2 and 3. In the late afternoon one of the sections operating with South Africa Company came to give us a section attack demonstration and then we had to march back to the pick-up point and quite by accident got a helicopter escort.
