The last of the extended HMSSO workshops took place on Sunday 23rd January. The mood of the pupils was very upbeat and it was clear that there was a great sense of anticipation as the orchestra settled down to play what is a challenging but musically fulfilling programme. Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, Khachaturian’s music from Spartacus and Richard Rodney Bennett’s Waltz from ‘Murder on the Orient express were performed with great aplomb. The pupils had obviously done a lot of practice on their music since the last rehearsal and one could clearly hear the improvement that had been made. This all augurs well for the concert that takes place in HMSG Main School Hall on Thursday 3rd February. It commences at 7.00pm and will also feature the Telemann Viola Concerto and concerto movements performed by pupils of Monmouth School and HMSG.
