Taking over the Headship of such a prestigious school is a wonderful, exciting challenge. I shall understand only too well what the girls joining Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls will be feeling this term as they arrive here for the first time, full of hope and anticipation. This is a school filled with energy and happiness; there is a sense that girls can achieve extraordinary things with the support and encouragement of the staff and fellow pupils. With a mixture of day and boarding pupils aged 7 to 18, HMSG creates a real sense of community, where we live and work together and genuinely care about each other.
Academic results are impressive, with 100% pass rate at A level now a regular achievement. But this independent girls’ school, offers much, much more than just a set of grades. Girls enjoy a wide range of sports, including lacrosse, hockey, fencing and rowing. Many compete at a national or international level, regularly pursuing those interests into university and beyond. Whether a pupil’s passion is for music, drama, photography, dance, CCF or Duke of Edinburgh Award, the school will encourage her to reach a high standard. It nurtures a “can-do” spirit, facilitating the girls’ growing self-confidence. At all ages, your daughter will be encouraged to take responsibility, to experience teamwork and leadership, to encounter challenge and to think for themselves and to manage their time wisely.
HMSG inspires girls to aim high and achieve success in a wide variety of fields; with past pupils pursuing careers as varied as science, engineering, the media, medicine, the arts, politics and law. Understanding that boys and girls learn differently, the School is geared up to bring out the best in each child, providing the pastoral care and strong role models to encourage girls to play to their own strengths but with close links with our sibling Monmouth School for joint social and cultural events and a coordinated sixth form timetable offering over 30 A level subjects.
Facilities at HMSG include 4 new ICT suites, 8 new classrooms, new rooms for Food Technology and Textiles, and a refurbished area for drama teaching. We have a swimming pool, fitness suite, recording studio and all-weather pitch. Situated in the magnificent Wye Valley, the School is easily accessed by road, rail and air. There is an extensive coach network bringing pupils in from the Bristol area, Cardiff, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire. Girls from 9-18 can opt for a full Boarding experience, or do so weekly or on a “flexi” basis.
