Reading Regatta
Four HMSG girls travelled to Reading on the 13th of June to compete in Reading Regatta. The Junior 18 double of Freddie and Emily, and the Junior 15 double of Alice and Grace both put up strong fights, but sadly neither crew made it to their final.
Grace then raced in the category of novice single sculls, so raced against competitors older than her, but still managed to reach the finals-although sadly missing out on first place. Then Alice and Emily raced in single sculls, with Emily competing against girls up to two years her senior. They both raced well down the course, but both just missed out on a place in the final.
Racing a category above her age group, Freddie, who entered the Junior 18 single sculls, managed to reach the final and win. After an impressive race, Freddie managed to beat her opposition from Upper Thames Rowing Club by 3 lengths over the 1100 metre race.
Henley Women’s Regatta
On the 18th of June the crew of Emily, Jo, Grace, Freddie and cox Hollie travelled up to Henley to compete at the prestigious Henley Women’s Regatta. Racing as a Junior Four, competing against crews three years their senior, they first raced against a crew from Dublin-based Commercial Rowing Club. The Habs’ crew won this race convincingly, to gain a place in the quarter finals.

After putting up a strong fight in their next race, they sadly didn’t achieve a place in the semi-finals, but were beaten by a crew that then went on to reach the finals of this event. The whole crew did exceptionally well to get this far, competing against the top crews from many areas around the world. Both Jo and Emily are now going to GB trials at the weekend, while the rest of the crew, and several other members of the rowing club, are attending the upcoming Wales trials, with the ambition of representing their country at the summer events.
