Isabel (Year 11) has had a poem commended as part of the Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award 2010. This prestigious award, whose previous winners include former Poet Laureate Andrew Motion, attracted a record number of entries this year – more than 20,000 poems. That Isabel’s poem was selected among the top 100 therefore makes her achievement all the more impressive.
In October, Isabel will attend an Awards Ceremony in London, and spend the day working with the Faber poet Simon Armitage. Her other prizes include a year's Youth Membership of the Poetry Society, a range of poetry books and writing journals, and the opportunity to contribute to the poetry magazine YM. She will also be writing some poems inspired by paintings.
Well done, Isabel, on this extraordinary achievement!
