Festival of Physics at the University of Bristol

A group of girls from Years 10 and 12 listened to talks and watched physics demonstrations in the Physics Department of Bristol University last Saturday.

Professor Paul Valdes, of University of Bristol, spoke about, ‘Modelling climate change: the past, present and future of the world's climate’; and Dr David Horsell, from University of Exeter explained what Graphene is.

The highlight of the day was when Professor Mgr Tomáš Tyc, Masaryk University, Czech Republic did some physics magic tricks and then explained how they worked.

The Explorer Dome planetarium was also there at lunch time, along with physics students making instant ice cream using liquid nitrogen and a chilled super-conductor (that always repels both north and south poles of a magnet) to make a levitated model railway.
