Last Saturday a group of girls from Years 10 and 11 visited the annual Festival of Physics, this time held at @Bristol Science and Discovery Centre. The morning session consisted of two fascinating lectures: the first was entitled, "Revealing the Invisible- beyond human vision" by Professor Francis Ring, who explained the advances in infrared imaging and its applications in medical science and so-called 'Fever Screening' in airports, which remains a subject for scientific debate; the second presentation was entitled, "Spin it to bend it: science and the swerving free kick", by Dr Ken Bray, who discussed the evolution of spin in ball games and illustrated the physics and mathematics underpinning the movements of footballs by showing some memorable free kicks by famous players such as Beckham and Ronaldo.
In the afternoon the girls then spent a couple of hours exploring the exhibits and finished off the day shopping in Cabot Circus.
