Drama - Clubs/Societies

The formal drama curriculum at HMSG is supported by several extra-curricular opportunities.  Young Actors Lab is a popular and thriving performance project led by Mrs. Wragg, open to students in Years 7, 8 and 9 and supported by senior students who act as mentors.  Recent productions have included an adaptation of William Golding’s ‘Lord the Flies’ and Shakespeare’s ‘A Mid-summer Night’s Dream’.  Young Actor’s Lab is a joint schools project open to boys from Monmouth School.

Monmouth Drama Studio is a student run Sixth Form Drama group which meets weekly throughout the year to produce a play for performance early in the spring.  Last year they put on Dennis Kelly’s ‘DNA’ and this year they will perform ‘Dracula’.  Monmouth Drama Studio is run entirely by sixth form students from HMSG and MBS.

In 2010 HMSG will participate in the Shakespeare in Schools Festival, a nationwide drama festival in which students work on a Shakespeare play for performance in a professional theatre.  This project will focus on Years 9 and 10 and provides opportunities for HMSG girls to work together with Monmouth boys as well as sharing performance work with pupils from other schools.
