Last weekend HMSG put a mixed team of Old Girls and present staff into the Duke of Edinburgh Award’s annual Adventure race. The race was held in the Black mountain region of the national park on the 25th and 26th of September, it was quite a tough race with a few minor dramas on the way; one team member had to drop out the day before the event due to ill health so Ms Parry stepped up to take her place so the team consisted of Mr Hunt, Mr Meek, Ms Parry, Ellie, Kath and Mr Clarke. The 2 day race consisted of a 9km run across the hills from Trecastle to Usk reservoir (which is nowhere near Usk!) followed by a 2km canoe race (6 people 5 paddles 2 canoes roped together!) This was then followed by a 16km timed bike loop and a 1 km canoe 2.5 km run relay. Day 2 started with a 10km hike over rough terrain. Some teams ran this but due to injury we had to settle on a brisk walk. This was followed by a 5 km up hill bike ride, a 2 km timed fell run, a 20 point orienteering run and a 3.5 km return run. Team work was excellent and out of 19 original entries Habs came 9th, not the position we would have liked but we started and finished as a team of 6 this is something to build on for next year! |
