Despite a hectic music schedule, HMSG have held three special charity concerts in the last two weeks.
At the end of November, the girls’ choirs performed with the Senior Strings, under the baton of Mrs Friend, a repertoire ranging from Mozart to Simon and Garfunkel which raised £450 for Great Oaks Hospice in the Forest of Dean.
On Thursday 2nd December, HMSG hosted a Christmas concert, which the Symphonic Wind Band opened in splendid style under the baton of Mrs Dollins. Audiences enjoyed a variety of instrumental groups and choirs from HMSG, and the Senior Strings concluded the evening with ‘A Merry Christmas Tango’. The concert was in aid of ‘The Astro Fund’, a charity dedicated to those suffering from low-grade brain tumours, and a cause particularly dear to the hearts of both Schools.
On Wednesday, 8th December, the Chamber Choir travelled to Tewkesbury Abbey to perform alongside the Tewkesbury Town Band and local singer, Johnny Coppin. The concert was arranged by the Pied Piper Appeal, which raises money to care for sick children. Hundreds of pounds were raised by a large audience who filled the Abbey on a cold evening. The Chamber Choir, conducted by Ms Randles, performed pieces by Elgar, Rutter and Cornelius and were highly commended by the organisers who said, “This was a wonderful feast of music and song. Your choir are fantastic and went down so well. The feedback was amazing - I hope each of you felt the sense of receptivity from all those present.”
