Cardiff University Internship

Cardiff University Internship with Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation (ENRC) South Africa, Summer 2010.

On the morning of Friday 24th September the current group of Year 12 Geographers were fortunate enough to meet HMSG Old Girl Charlotte Greenhaf.  Lottie is currently studying for an MeSci in Earth Science at Cardiff University and has spent this summer on an internship with mining company ENRC in both Johannesburg and Mozambique.  ENRC is one of the world’s leading natural resources groups and is based in Kazakhstan.

Lottie has just completed a common first year studying Geology, Exploration and Resource Geology, Environmental Geoscience and Marine Geoscience, and was able to assist the firm with research on global positioning systems and environmental impact assessments.  She also told the girls of the invaluable life related experiences at ‘Camp 871’ in Mozambique where she was involved in the helicopter medical evacuation of badly burnt two year old baby on her first day.

Having recently attended a ‘Masters Class’ on Globalisation by Professor John Bryson (Birmingham University) the girls in Year 12 enjoyed the opportunity to stretch themselves again.  Focusing on understanding the university environment, choice of university and course, and the importance of research, networking and constantly challenging yourself.  It was also great to hear that the HMSG old girls at Cardiff are still working, playing and rowing together.

Thank you Lottie.  The Geography Department always welcomes former alumni who can help bring the subject to life!
